Molasses Cookies w/ Glaze

Molasses Cookies
These are really delicious old-fashioned cookies.

2 ¾ c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp ginger
1 ½ c sugar
½ c shortening
3 eggs
½ c molasses

Preheat oven to 350. Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs and molasses. Stir in remaining ingredients just until mixed. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto prepared pans. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Transfer to wire racks.

Sugar Cookie Frosting
This is taken from a 1929 recipe scrapbook.

1 c powdered sugar
2 tsp milk, add more as needed
2 tsp corn syrup
¼ tsp vanilla

Stir together until glossy and smooth. I like to brush the frosting onto my cookies with a silicone brush. It hardens pretty nicely to a pretty white glaze.

I came across your blog when I was researching on homemaking topics. I enjoyed reading the posts. I would also like to share with you the fact that I came across a very interesting site called www.homemakersalmanac.com or www.grihast.com. It seems to be a very ambitious compendium of all homemaking topics and deals with a variety of subjects that would be of immense interest to the homemaker. Do visit the site and read the articles. They are very informative. Registration is FREE. So do not hesitate to register. You will definitely enjoy yourself."
