Crockpot Oatmeal

I've made crockpot oatmeal before using regular oats and it's good, but super creamy, like cream of wheat and it splattered all over my counter during the night.

I've heard that using steel cut oats would give you a better oatmeal texture, so when I saw them on sale for $1.39/lb I thought I'd give it a try. The results were good. It still comes out softer than oats cooked over the stove, but I expected that. This oatmeal was sweet and really yummy and it didn't splatter at all.

Crockpot Oatmeal

1 c. steel cut oats
4 c. water
2 T butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/8 tsp maple flavoring

Mix all in a 2 qt crockpot and cook on low overnight. Mine cooked for eight hours with no problem. Serve with milk.

I'm going to try that. What a great breakfast. I think I'll cut down on the sugar though.

First of all, I never thought to use a crockpot for something like this. I am so not a cooking person.

And you've been busy. I'm behind on blogging.

I think I'll sign up for your summer swap. I'll get back to that later today.
Glad you had a great mothers day.
